Dress Code & Student Uniforms
Durham’s uniform expectations support a safe, focused, and welcoming learning environment. Students should arrive in approved uniform attire each school day unless the campus communicates a special dress opportunity.

What Students May Wear
The summary below highlights the main expectations. Families should review the complete illustrated guide for examples and all requirements.
Uniform Shirts
Red, navy, or baby-blue polo shirts may be solid or display the school logo. Durham logo T-shirts are also permitted in red, navy, or baby blue.
Uniform Bottoms
Denim, khaki, or navy pants, shorts, skirts, or jeggings are permitted. Approved uniform jumpers and rompers may also be worn. Clothing may not have holes, decorations, or cargo pockets.
Shoes & Socks
Students must wear sneakers or other closed-toe shoes that are safe for PE and the playground. Plain socks or tights are required, and shoelaces must remain tied. Sandals, Crocs, flip-flops, and high heels are not permitted.
Outerwear
Cardigans, sweaters, sweatshirts, hoodies, and jackets may be any color and may be worn with or without the school logo. A uniform shirt must be worn underneath. Outerwear may not display inappropriate or distracting graphics or wording.
Friday Dress
College shirts and approved Durham spirit shirts may be worn on Fridays. Students may also earn Free Dress Friday passes for designated days. All free-dress clothing must remain appropriate for school.

Safety, Grooming & Uniform Support
Jewelry and grooming
- Necklaces are limited to one small- or medium-sized chain.
- Hoop earrings must be smaller than a quarter.
- Hair must be neat, clean, well-groomed, and free from classroom disruptions.
- Makeup and acrylic nails are not permitted for health and safety reasons.
- Hats may only be worn inside during a Durham-sponsored event.
When a student is out of uniform
Students who are not dressed in the required uniform may be asked to change.
A parent or guardian may be contacted to provide appropriate clothing.
Repeated uniform concerns may affect participation in free-dress opportunities.
Uniform donations and family support
Families are encouraged to donate gently used Durham uniforms that their children have outgrown.
Donations help support a campus uniform exchange so students can return to class without missing instruction.
