Mylie E. Durham Elementary School, located at 4803 Brinkman Street in Houston’s Shepherd Park Plaza and Candlelight Plaza community, has proudly served generations of children and families since its dedication on May 5, 1968.
The school was named in memory of Dr. Mylie E. Durham (1893–1962), a highly respected Houston Heights physician. During his lifetime, Dr. Durham founded the Durham Clinic and served as president of the Harris County Medical Society, leaving a lasting legacy of service and leadership within the Houston community.
Over the decades, Durham Elementary has developed a proud tradition of academic excellence, bilingual education, and strong family and community partnership. A significant milestone came in 2014, when Durham became an authorized International Baccalaureate World School offering the Primary Years Programme in English and Spanish.
Today, Durham continues to honor its history by providing a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that reflects the diversity, character, and strength of the surrounding community. As the home of the Dalmatians, the school remains committed to preparing knowledgeable, compassionate, and globally minded students for the future.
