Durham Elementary’s Shared Decision-Making Committee brings together staff, families, community members, and business representatives to support campus planning, student achievement, and continuous improvement.
About the Committee
What Is an SDMC?
The Houston Independent School District Board of Education established the campus-level planning and decision-making process in 1992. This process includes the creation and maintenance of a Shared Decision-Making Committee at each school.
The SDMC reviews district educational goals, objectives, and major classroom instructional programs. Each committee includes professional and nonprofessional staff, parents, community members, and business representatives who help establish academic and other campus performance objectives.
The committee’s work supports the academic excellence indicators identified in the Texas Education Code, including TEC §11.253 and TEC §39.051.
Implement campus-level planning processes.
Develop recommendations for the school budget.
Submit recommendations for the school curriculum.
Recommend changes to campus staffing patterns.
Develop and approve campus staff-development plans.
Develop, review, and revise the School Improvement Plan.
Review and recommend changes to the school’s organizational structure.
Establish procedures for broad-based community, parent, and staff input.
